What To Expect

First stop: Cayambe (approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes from Quito)

We’ll arrive in Cayambe, a charming town nestled at the foot of the majestic Cayambe volcano. If the weather permits, you’ll have the opportunity to capture spectacular photos of this snow-capped peak!

What will we do in Cayambe?

  • “Bizcocho” tasting: We’ll have a 15-minute stop to try the famous “bizcochos” of Cayambe, delicious sweet biscuits perfect for enjoying with a cup of coffee or hot chocolate.
  • Panoramic views: Admire the vast rose plantations that flourish in this region, known for their beauty and quality.

Fun fact: Cayambe is crossed by the Equator line, so you’ll technically be in both hemispheres at the same time!

Otavalo Market, a vibrant tapestry of indigenous culture!

Our journey continues to the heart of the Andes Mountains, where the renowned Otavalo Market awaits. As one of the most famous markets in South America, it’s a captivating blend of colors, traditions, and craftsmanship.

Immerse yourself in the vibrant colors and rich culture of Otavalo  as you stroll through one of the largest indigenous markets in South America. Discover intricate textiles, exquisite handicrafts, and local artwork.  This is your time to shop and explore! We’ll spend approximately 2 hours wandering through the market’s fascinating stalls.

SAN JOSE DE QUICHINCHE, Quichinche, Otavalo, Ecuador

Next, we’ll journey to the Quichinche area (around 12:30 PM) to visit our hosts, the Fuerez family. This is the heart of our tour, offering an incredible experience with an Otavalan family. We’ll learn about local products, “farm-to-table” Andean cuisine, ancestral cooking techniques, and even apply these techniques using local ingredients to prepare a delicious lunch together.

Embark on a unique journey into the heart of Otavalo, where a warm and welcoming local family will open their doors to share their culture, culinary traditions, and daily life with you. Experience  traditional Chicha de Jora, a fermented corn beverage, and savor an authentic Andean culinary presentation. Immerse yourself in the flavors and essence of Otavalo’s rich culture. In this immersive cooking class, you’ll discover the rich tapestry of Andean cuisine, rooted in centuries-old traditions and using  ancestral, locally sourced ingredients.

  • Pick-up details Our private transportation and tour guide will pick you up from your location at the set time of 9am. We will contact you one day before your Tour to share information about what you need to bring. Please note this in case you are booking as a "solo traveler" and there are other people who have booked as a "solo traveler" on the same date. You will be together. However, the group will not be larger than 3 individual travelers Hotel pick-up is offered During the checkout process, you can select an option from the list of included hotels. This activity ends at the starting point. Passengers should wait at the corner of the Swissôtel, specifically at the intersection of Luis Cordero Street and 12 de Octubre Avenue. Right on this corner, and as part of the Swissôtel, is the Tanoshi Japanese restaurant. Passengers should be there 15 minutes prior to departure. End: This activity ends at the meeting point.
